Captains Trounce Methodist 22-3

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Christopher Newport University women's lacrosse squad cruised to their seventh straight victory with a 22-3 win over Methodist University. Ashton Marshall led the Captains with seven goals.

Methodist was the first on the board with a goal from Jasmine Stephens under a minute into the game. In less than two minutes the Captains put two on the board and Methodist scored one to make it an even 2-2 at the 27:55 mark.

Katie Vu scored next for the Captains and was followed by five straight goals from Marshall to make it an 8-2 Captains' lead. CNU continued to pour it on with seven more goals in the first half for a 15-2 halftime score.

CNU scored three goals in the second half before Methodist put their final goal of the game in the net off a free position shot. The Captains closed out the game with four more goals for a 22-3 final.

Elizabeth Bryant scored three goals for the Captains while Jessica Singer and Alexis Mooney both netted two.

Hannah Wilkerson and Cassie Raithel split time in the net for the Captains. Wilkerson made five saves and allowed two goals while Raithel made four save and allowed on goal.

This is the Captains' eighth win of the season as they improve to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in USA South play. The Monarchs dropped to 4-5 overall with a 2-3 USA South record.

The Captains stay on the road traveling to Greensboro, N.C. tomorrow for a game against Guilford College. The game is set to start at 1:00pm.
