NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University men's lacrosse team defeated Randolph College 18-4 today at Captains field. Seniors
John Glaser and
Rob Koster led the way with four goals apiece.
CNU took control of the game right away scoring their first goal just two minutes into the game. They continued with four more goals in the first period and gave up one.
Ari Elgort won all seven faceoffs taken in the second period as CNU continued to dominate scoring five more goals and allowing one. The Captains entered halftime with a 9-2 lead.
The Captains continued to pour on the goals with five coming in the third period. The wildcats scored two in the third but that's where their scoring stopped. The Captains added four more in the last period for an 18-4 win.
Adding goals for the Captains were
Kyle Pasta and
Ryan Duca with two each and six additional players with one.
John Thompson and
Patrick DeVries each dished out three assists while
Chase Walton, Koster and Parker Thompon had two.
Ari Elgort dominated in faceoffs winning 20 of the 23 he took and he picked up a team-high 10 ground balls..
Zakary Burkhard led the team in caused turnovers with three. Goalkeeper
Andy McGregor played three periods and made five saves and gave up four goals.
Mark Hargrove stepped in for the fourth period and made three saves.
The Captains outshot the Wildcats 48 to 14 and picked up 25 ground balls to Randolph's 11.
CNU returns to action as they travel to Mary Washington next Saturday, March 3. Game time is set for 1:00pm.
