FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The 14th-ranked Captains fell behind, 1-0, on the road today, but flexed their offensive muscle with four straight goals to run away with a 4-1 win at the University of Mary Washington. CNU (14-2-2) leaned on the team's two leading scorers as Jalon Brown scored twice with one assist and Andrew Bonorden added one goal and one assist.

The Eagles (10-7-1) jumped out to a quick lead, scoring just 1:21 into the game. Matt Alter set up Rory Grambo's first goal of the year. Facing a stout defense that had allowed just 15 goals in 17 games, the Captains would ratchet up the offense in the first half, but it was an own goal by the Eagles that tied things up in the 27th minute.

At halftime, the score was still knotted at one with the Captains holding a 10-8 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 edge in shots on-goal. UMW goalkeeper Tyler Back turned away all six attempts for the Eagles.

In the second half, though, Brown and Bonorden ignited a big three-goal surge for the 4-1 win. The two combined on the eventual gamewinning strike in the 61st minute, when Bonorden set up the sophomore forward. The two would switch roles just five minutes later as Brown assisted on Bonorden's 13th goal of the year.

Brown capped his 5-point day with his second goal of the game in the 82nd minute. He drove a line drive into the right pocket from about 25 yards out.

With the performance, Brown and Bonorden have each poured in 13 goals this season, tied for 9th best in a single season in CNU history. Brown is leading the squad with 36 total points, tied for the fourth-best season, after adding 10 assists.

The Captains close the regular season with 14 wins and will now focus attention on the 2012 USA South Tournament, beginning Saturday. CNU won the outright regular season conference championship and will be the top seed in this year's postseason event for the fourth time in the last five years.  This season, with the expansion of the USA South, the men's tournament has increased to an eight-team event, and CNU will host 8th-seeded Piedmont College (6-9-2) in the Quarterfinal round on Saturday at 7:00 pm. The winner will advance to play in the semifinals at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, Va. the following weekend. Live stats and live video will be available from Captains Field for the Quarterfinal matchup.
