ASHLAND, Va. – The Christopher Newport University field hockey team started their 2011 campaign with a 2-1 win over Randolph-Macon College. This was the eleventh meeting of these two teams and CNU has yet to drop a game to the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets were able to hold off the first eleven shots from the Captains in the first half before junior Caitlin Cahill ripped a shot from the top of the circle that found the back of the cage with just over a minute left in the first half.

The Captains put up another goal as freshman Belle Tunstall passed the ball to junior Chrissy Kurecki waiting on the left post to score her first goal of the season. As time was winding down in the second half the Yellow Jackets were able to sneak in a goal from freshman Carrie Jacobs to make it a 2-1 final.

The Captains took 21 shots to Randolph-Macon's 12 and earned 14 penalty corners to the Yellow Jackets' seven.

Goalkeeper Jamie Dowling earned her first win as a Captain making six saves and only allowing one goal. Yellow Jacket goalkeeper, Nicole Woodworth, made 12 saves in the game.

The #12 Captains will host #4 Salisbury on Wednesday, September 7th, at 6:00pm in their home opener in what is sure to be an exciting matchup. The game last year in Salisbury, Md. went into double overtime with the Seagulls coming away with the win.
