Harkey’s 10 Points Leads Captains Past Methodist, 20-3

The Captains improved to 10-1 with the win

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University women's lacrosse team improved to 10-1 overall and 6-0 in the USA South Conference with a 20-3 defeat of Methodist University. The Captains were led by Meghan Harkey who earned 10 points on two goals and eight assists.

The Captains started off with a pair of goals from Kaitlin Quigley in the first five minutes of the game. Both goals were assisted by Harkey. Jessica Singer scored her first of the day at 24:35 to give the Captains a 3-0 lead. CNU continued pouring on the goals putting up 11 more before the half.

After only two shots in the first half the Monarchs scored the first two goals in the second half to make it 14-2 with 18:06 remaining. Rachel Tomlinson answered just a minute and a half later off a pass from Harkey.

Jasmine Stephens scored her third goal for the Monarchs at 14:52. The Captains finished the second half with five goals to finish with a 20-3 win.

Singer and Lauren King both scored four goals for the Captains while Quigley, Tomlinson and Grace Valentine netted three each. Also scoring for the Captains was Jenna Cyr with one.

Harkey picked up a team-high three ground balls while Quigley won eight draw controls. Emily Johnson caused three turnovers to lead the Captains.

Hannah Wilkerson picked up her tenth win after making two saves and allowing three goals.

The Captains return to action as they host Mary Washington on Wednesday at 1:00pm. The Eagles of Mary Washington are currently ranked 17th in the nation.
