#2 Captains Return Home to Face Rutgers-Newark Saturday at 1:00 pm

CNU wrapped up seven-game road trip with 6-0-1 record

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After wrapping up a seven-game road swing, the second-ranked Christopher Newport University men's soccer team (9-0-1) returns home for a 1:00 pm kickoff Saturday, versus Rutgers-Newark (9-4-0). CNU will be looking for their 16th straight double-digit win season.

The Captains, led by senior midfielder Brian Lybert, have featured a potent offensive strike this season, averaging nearly three goals per game (2.90). Meanwhile, the defense headlined by senior goalkeeper Justin Wolfe has allowed more than one goal in just one game this season, holding opponents to just 0.80 goals per game.

Rookie Jalon Brown continues to impress in his first season with the Captains as one of just four players to start every game so far this season. He scored a pair of goals in CNU's most recent win and ranks third on the squad in points with 10 (4g, 2a).

Saturday's game will be the first ever between the two teams as Rutgers-Newark travels to Captains Field. The Captains have posted a 24-1-1 record at home in the last three years and will look to maintain that dominance against a team that is riding a hot winning streak, taking four of the last five games.

The Scarlet Raiders are led by sophomore Daniel Naranjo, scoring six goals and adding three assists for 15 total points. Nick Kypriano and Joshua Alvarez help add to the attack that is averaging nearly two goals per game (1.85). Defensively, junior keeper Jonathan Frances has helped hold teams to just 1.08 goals per with 60 saves in goal this season.

Live stats and a live video webcast will be available at game time.

NOTE: The preferred parking lot for Saturday's men's soccer game is Lot E. The lot near Ratcliffe and the turf field will be closed for football tailgating. The CNU parking map is attached here.
