NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The No. 14 field hockey team tallied their seventh win of the season with a 5-1 defeat of Eastern Mennonite University. The Captains improved to 7-3 with the win while Eastern Mennonite falls to 7-7.

Freshman Belle Tunstall opened the scoring nine minutes into the contest. She beat two defenders on the left side of the field and used her speed to get into the circle and take a shot that ripped past the goalkeeper.

Tunstall scored the next goal at the 23 minute mark in the first half putting the Captains up by two. The 2-0 score held through halftime. Eight minutes into the second half junior Caitlin Cahill notched her tenth goal of the season off a pass from sophomore Marlene Lichty.

At 52 minutes Cahill dribbled into the circle and once on the end line she hit the ball to the stroke mark where senior Kelsey Rigby slapped the ball into the cage.

Just seconds later the Royals put their lone goal on the board as Jenessa Derstine broke free from the Captains' defense and took a shot from the right side of the circle that slipped past CNU goalkeeper Julie Collins.

A minute later the Captains put the final goal on the board as Lichty drove the ball into the circle and freshman Lauren Cheatham tipped it into the cage.

The Captains outshot the Royals 21 to 11 and had 15 corners to four for Eastern Mennonite.
