Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University field hockey team added another win as they rolled past Rhodes on Captains Field, 5-0. The win improved the Captains to 2-0 on the season and dropped Rhodes to 1-1 on the year.

Christopher Newport University struck first 11:09 into the game with a goal from junior Paige Childers (Virginia Beach, Va.)off a crossed ball from sophomore Caitlin Cahill (Virginia Beach, Va.). Senior Taylor Harrell (Virginia Beach, Va.) was the next to score for the Captains as pulled a ball out of the air and put it into the back of the cage. The last goal of the first half came from junior Kelsey Rigby (Falmouth, Mass.) off an assist from senior Kylie Cale (Chester, Va.).

CNU put another goal on the board just five minutes into the second half as Katelyn Yandle (Portsmouth, Va.) tipped a shot from Cale making the score 4-0. Freshman Marlene Lichty (Chesapeake, Va.) scored her first goal of the season as she dribbled around the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net.

CNU goalkeeper junior Brittany Bradsher (Hampton, Va.) captured her first shutout while posting five saves.

The Captains return to action on Wednesday, September 8, against top-ranked Salisbury University. Game time is set for 6:00pm in Salisbury, Md.
