NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport University women's volleyball team improved to 10-1, 3-0 in the USA South, when they made quick work of the Methodist Monarchs on Sunday morning, 3-0. The match lasted just 57 minutes as the 11th ranked Captains increased their set-winning streak to 27 straight.

The Captains struggled early in the first set, as Methodist hung around in a tie game, 12-12, before CNU head coach Lindsay Birch called a timeout. The team would post a 13-2 run the rest of the way, though, to seal the first set. The Captains would win the second set 25-7, and then won the match with a 25-12 win in the third.

CNU shared the ball in the match, as AVCA National Player of the Week Jessie Heavenrich (Cambria, Calif.) and sophomore setter Alyssa Kidd (Lynchburg, Va.) each posted double-digit assists. Kidd's 14-assist performance was the second-best of her young career and she added three kills, four digs and an ace. Heavenrich continued her terrific season in the middle of the floor with 18 assists.

Kara Elder (Charlottesville, Va.) led all players with seven kills while Chelsea McClure (Montclair, Va.) posted a season- and match-high five aces.

Methodist was led by Kayci Miller with 16 assists and Stephanie Wood with five kills.

The #11 Captains will return to action later this afternoon as they face Greensboro College. The match will tip at 5 pm in the Freeman Center as CNU looks to improve to 4-0 in USA South action.
