BOSTON, Mass. -- A pair of Christopher Newport volleyball players were recognized by the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference for their performances this week as
Jasmine Williams was named the C2C Offensive Player of the Week while
Lanie Goff earned C2C Defensive Player of the Week accolades. The Captains swept the Player of the Week honors after posting a 3-0 record this week.
This week, the Captains picked up three wins and improved to 18-6 overall with a 3-0 road win at Salisbury before a pair of 3-0 wins against Johnson and Wales Charlotte and Randolph College.
Leading the way on the offensive side of the ball was rookie middle blocker
Jasmine Williams. Williams recorded 12 kills in the road match against the Sea Gulls and then returned home where she added eight kills and six kills, respectively. She finished the week with 26 total kills while hitting an impressive .426 during the week.
For the season, Williams is on a record pace as a freshman with a team-high .340 attack percentage and 189 kills (2.55 per set). The hitting percentage record for a freshman was set in 2004 by Hall of Famer Brittany Collins with a .345 mark when she recorded 183 kills on 443 swings. This season, she ranks fifth among all freshmen in NCAA Division III.
On the defensive side, Goff played in all three matches as a defensive specialist for the Captains. She finished the week with 35 digs and 3.89 digs per set. The transfer first recorded four digs in a road win at Salisbury before adding 15 against JWU Charlotte and 16 more against Randolph.
Goff's 31 digs led the way in a tri-match at the Freeman Center on Saturday, and she also added three aces and nine assists in the two home matches. She is one of six CNU players with 100 or more digs this season and ranks third on the team with 157 total ups.
Williams collected her second Offensive Player of the Week recognition of the season while Goff picks up her first career certificate. The duo joins
Simara Alexander, who earned the Offensve Player of the Week pick in Week 2.
CNU will return to action on Wednesday, October 28 at 6:00 p.m. against the University of Mary Washington.
