NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport University Director of Athletics C.J. Woollum and Field Hockey Coach
Carrie Moura today announced the hiring of
Natalie Barrett as assistant field hockey coach.
“We are all elated about the addition of Natalie to the coaching staff,” Moura said. “We believe her international and Division I experience will help the program reach even greater success for the 2010 season.”
Barrett received her Bachelor of Business Administration from Kent State University in 2009 and continued at Kent State to receive her Masters of Arts in Exercise/Leisure and Sport in 2010.
Barrett played field hockey at Kent State, starting in 47 of the 60 games in which she appeared, scoring 17 goals and adding eight assists. Barrett, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, was a member of the Scotland National U16 and U18 squads before coming to Kent State.
After a successful collegiate career Barrett stayed with the program at Kent State where she has been an assistant since 2008.
"I'm delighted to be here and to be a part of the CNU field hockey team,” Barrett said. “I'm very grateful to Coach Moura and the CNU administration for providing me with this opportunity. I'm really excited to start working with the team, and I will do everything I can to help continue the success of this program, both on and off the field"
CNU's field hockey team advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament after a 16-4 regular season in 2009. They kick off their 2010 season at Captains Field on September 1st at 6:00 pm against Randolph-Macon.
