Box Score 2 YORK, Pa. - CNU closed its 2010 baseball season by dropping a doubleheader at York (Pa.) Saturday, 3-2 and 6-3.
Down, 1-0, in the opener the Captains scored twice in the third inning to take the lead. Connor Madden singled down the left field line to drive in Mike Romett who had reached base on a single. Base hits by Shannon Mark and Drue Vernon scored Madden.
But the Spartans tied the score in the bottom of the third and the plated the winning run in the fifth in the seven inning contest.
Luke Saunders and Ben Lenda each went 2-3 for CNU, while Josh Brinkman took the loss, allowing three runs in six innings, only two of which were earned. He is 7-4.
CNU also took an early lead in game two, scoring once in each of the first two innings. In the first Mark scored on a double play ground out. In the second Romett doubled and scored on a single by Shayne Kersey.
The Spartans answered with five in the fourth and CNU could manage just one more run when Romett and Kersey again combined on a double and single. Those two led the Captains with two hits each with Kersey picking up two RBIs. Ian Lenda took the loss, slipping to 1-4 on the year.
CNU finishes with a 24-17 record, York is 23-12.
