Quigley Breaks Season Record as CNU Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Roanoke, 20-14

Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA – CNU junior, Kaitlin Quigley, scored four goals in today's game against Roanoke College giving her 64 goals on the season, breaking the record for goals in a season. The Captains beat visiting Roanoke College 20-14 with a big 14-goal second half.

CNU senior, Natalie Gilbert, got things started with a goal just 30 seconds into the game. Roanoke answered with a goal just two minutes later from Sunni Ray. CNU went up 4-1 on a three-goal run in just five minutes of play until Roanoke netted two making it 4-3 with 21 minutes left in the first half. Roanoke tied the score at five with 8:46 remaining in the half but CNU came back 25 seconds later to go ahead by one. The Captains held onto the lead going into the second half.

Roanoke struck first just 15 seconds into the second half but CNU answered with five goals. Roanoke slipped in another before CNU scored three more making it 14-7 with 18:25 left in the second half. Goals went back and forth in pairs for the remainder of the second half with CNU scoring six and Roanoke scoring seven.

The score was tied three times throughout the game but the Captains never gave up the lead after scoring their first goal just 30 seconds into the game. CNU led in shots with 32 while Roanoke had 27.

Quigley's four goals gave her 64 on the season and 151 in her career. That gave her the single-season goals record and moved her into second place on the career goals record. The current record is 175 goals and is held by Kristen Conques (2004-2007).

Quigley was joined in scoring by Gilbert, Meghan Harkey, and Rachel Tomlinson with four goals each. Grace Valentine, Alyssa Burke and Becca Geist also scored for the Captains.

Gayle Robinson had 10 saves in the net for the Captains.
