Baseball Rallies for 10-Inning Win Over Ferrum, 9-7

  FERRUM, Va. - The CNU baseball team scored once in the ninth and twice in the tenth to take a 9-7 victory over Ferrum in USA South baseball action Sunday.

  Tariling 4-2, the Captains scored four runs in the top of the seventh, including a home run by Parker Neal. But Ferrum countered with one in the bottom of the seventh and two in the eight to push in front, 7-6.

  In the ninth, Steven Lindemuth singled and reached second on an error. Luke Saunders sacrificed him to third and he scored on Parker Neal's sacrifice fly.

  Chris Malvagna set the Panthers down in the bottom of the ninth, setting the stage for the winning tenth.

  Joey Martin walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. After Shayne Kersey moved him to third, Shannon Mark double to give the Captains the lead. Drue Vernon then singled home Mark to give CNU an insurance run. Malvagna closed the door in the tenth to end a seven-game Ferrum winning streak.

  Mark finished with three hits, while Lindemuth, Saunders and Connor Madden had two each. 

  The Captains are now 8-3 and 2-1 in the USA South. Ferrum is 7-2 and 0-1. The two teams meet again Monday at 3 p.m. at Ferrum
