Baseball Drops Two to Shenandoah, 8-3 and 8-7 in 14 innings

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WINCHESTER, Va. - The CNU baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Shenandoah Saturday, 8-3 and then 8-7 in 14 innings. The latter was the longest game in CNU history.

 In the opener, Shenandoah scored four times in the first inning and then added three more in the fourth before CNU got on the board.

Parker Neal had three hits for CNU and Conner Madden two.

The second game was a back and forth affair, with CNU taking a 3-1 lead after four innings. The Hornets pushed in front 4-3 in the fifth, but the Captains regained the lead, 6-4, after the top of the eighth. Shenandoah inched closer with  run in the eighth and sent the game into extra innings in the ninth on a one out double by Greg Van Sickler.

CNU scored in the 11th on a home run by Steven Keener, but the Hornets answered with a run of their own when Jon Holcomb scored on a passed ball.

Shenandoah finally won it in the 14th on an RBI single by Holcomb.

Keener, Parker Neal and Ben Lenda all had two hits for the Captains who are now 13-9 and 5-5 in the USA South. Shenandoah is 20-5 and 5-3 in conference play.

CNU travels to Bridgewater Tuesday.
