Baseball Improves to 11-5 with Win Over N.C. Wesleyan, 12-8

NEWPORT NEWS, VA- The Christopher Newport baseball squad improved to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the USA South Saturday with a 12-8 home win over North Carolina Wesleyan. The Captains jumped to a 5-0 lead, then built a 10-2 advantage and held on for the four-run win.

CNU centerfielder Shannon Mark and second baseman Shayne Kersey each knocked in three runs for the Captains. Shortstop Parker Neal led the Captains attack with three hits. CNU catcher Steven Lindemuth smacked a two-run home run in the sixth inning, his second of the season, that concluded the scoring.

North Carolina Wesleyan's J.J. Allen contributed a three-run home run in the Bishops' six-run sixth inning.

Josh Brinkman pitched the first five-plus innings for the Captains to earn the victory. Brinkman is now 2-2 on the season. Max Knowles took the loss for the Bishops, who fall to 7-10 on the season.

The teams will meet again Sunday at 1 pm at Captains Park in USA South Athletic Conference play.
