Baseball Gains Series Split With Methodist in 7-1 Win

  FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The CNU baseball team used a five-run sixth inning to take a 7-1 victory over Methodist and gain a split in their two-game USA South series Sunday afternoon.

  The Captains took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Drue Vernon walked, stole second and came home on Luke Saunders' base hit.

  After Methodist tied in the bottom of the first the Captains added a run in the third when Steven Lindemuth doubled home Vernon who had singled.

  Five different Captains drove in runs in the fifth to help support Sean Chitsaz who got the win with six innings of four-hit pitching, allowing just one run.

  Shannon Mark, Vernon and Saunders had two hits each for CNU which is now 6-3 and 1-1 in conference play.

  The Captains host Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday at 2 p.m.
