Men's Basketball Wins Second Weekend Road Game, 76-70, Over Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The CNU men's basketball team swept a North Carolina road trip by defeating Methodist Saturday, 76-70, enabling the Captains to finish in a second place tie in the USA South.

The Captains led for all but one Methodist second half possession in improving their record to 12-12 and 7-5 in USA South play.

CNU raced to a 37-23 halftime lead, but saw the Monarchs battle back to peek in front, 43-42, with 12:15 to play. But Mark Blasingame hit two straight baskets to put the Captains in front to stay. They re-built the lead to 75-65 in the closing moments.

Brian Hermann led CNU with a career-high 23 points, on 9-14 shooting from the field. Blasingame finished with 14 points and five blocked shots, while Conley Taylor had 13.

CNu will host Greensboro Tuesday at the Freeman Center in the USA South Tournament quarterfinals at 7:30.
