NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University volleyball squad defeated Methodist in three sets advancing to the USA South Championship game. The Captains will take on North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday at 1:00pm in the Freeman Center in the championship game.
Set scores for the match were 25-11, 25-16 and 25-18.
The Captains were led by
Caitlyn Jansen (Lorton, Va.) with ten kills. Following with nine kills apiece were
Chelsea McClure (Montclair, Va.) and
Kara Elder (Charlottesville, Va.).
Jessie Heavenrich (Cambria, Calif.) led in assists with 37. Elder and
Mary Horner (Springfield, Va.) each had 10 digs for the Captains while
Bailey Jensen (Ashburn, Va.) added six blocks.
Methodist was led by
Jalesty Washington (Dunn, N.C.) with 11 kills and
Kayci Miller (Zanesville, Ohio) with 25 assists.
Hillary McPhatter (Winston-Salem, N.C.) led the Monarchs with 13 digs.
The win improves the Captains to 34-2 on the year and drops Methodist to 20-12.
