#7 Field Hockey Defeats Kenyon 4-2

CNU improves to 11-1 with the win

Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University field hockey team defeated Kenyon College 4-2 at Captains Field tonight. The win improves the Captains to 11-1 and drops the Ladies to 6-7.

The Captains got the scoring started just two minutes into the game with a goal from Taylor Harrell (Virginia Beach, Va.) who found the back of the cage off a pass from Stephanie Bair (Virginia Beach, Va.). The next goal came at 16:00 minutes in the first half as Caitlin Cahill (Virginia Beach, Va.) crossed the ball to Bair who put it into the goal making it 2-0.

With just five minutes left in the first half CNU scored off of a penalty corner as Katelyn Yandle (Portsmouth, Va.) sent a pass to Cahill who took a reverse shot that slipped by the keeper giving the Captains a 3-0 lead that held until halftime.

Fifteen minutes into the second half Marlene Lichty (Chesapeake, Va.) sent the ball up the field to Emma Mehrabi (Fredericksburg, Va.) who dribbled past a defender and then around the goalkeeper to send a shot into the back of the cage.

At 52:36 in the second Keynon put their first goal on the board from Sarah McNee. Just ten minutes later they scored again on a penalty corner shot from Liz McBean that deflected high into the cage off a CNU defender's stick.

The Captains outshot the Ladies 18 to nine and had 12 corners to Kenyon's eight.

CNU returns to action tomorrow night at 6:00pm as they host the Eagles of Mary Washington.
