Cahill Goal in Double Overtime Lifts #8 Field Hockey Over Eastern Mennonite 3-2

The Captains improve to 13-2 while Eastern Mennonite falls to 9-7

Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. – Caitlyn Cahill (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored her eight goal of the season to lift the Captains over the Royals in double overtime with a score of 3-2. The win improves the Captains to 13-2 and drops the Royals to 9-7.

The Captains struck first after 18 minutes of play with a goal by Paige Childers (Virginia Beach, Va.) assisted by Chrissy Kurecki (Richmond, Va.). With just five minutes left in the first half the Captains notched another goal by Katelyn Yandle (Portsmouth, Va.) and another assist by Kurecki. Yandle leads the team in scoring with 12 this season.

The Royals put their first mark on the scoreboard at 42:17 from Adriana Santiago. Just six minutes later they scored again to tie the game at 2 from a goal by Linda Cimini assisted by Santiago.

With nobody scoring in the last 25 minutes of regulation the game was forced into overtime with each team dropping to seven players on the field.

The first overtime saw five shots by Eastern Mennonite and four by the Captains but no goals. The Captains gained momentum in the second overtime putting up three shots to Eastern Mennonite's one. Cahill scored at just under two minutes into the second overtime period sealing the victory for the Captains.

The Captains outshot the Royals 23 to 15 and had 13 penalty corners to Eastern Mennonite's seven.

CNU goalkeeper Brittany Bradsher (Hampton, Va.) made seven saves while EMU goalkeeper Becky Nolt had nine.

The Captains return to action tomorrow as they host Bridgewater College in the last regular season home game of 2010.
