WINCHESTER, Va. -- Junior midfielder Brian Lybert (Honolulu, Hawaii) factored into all three scores with two goals and an assist to lead the 4th ranked Christopher Newport University Captains (14-1-1, 4-1-0) past the Shenandoah University Hornets (4-9-2, 0-3-1) in USA South men's soccer action, 3-0. Lybert scored the gamewinner early in the first half and the Captains added two in the second half for the final.

CNU's defense was tremendous, allowing just three shots in the game, all in the first half. Junior goalkeeper Justin Wolfe (Williamsburg, Va.) made two saves to lead CNU to its tenth shutout of the season.

The Captains jumped out to the early lead in the ninth minute of action, as senior midfielder Clif Kipper slipped a through ball to Andrew Bonorden, who touched it into the middle of the field for Lybert's game-winning strike.

CNU would pressure the Hornets keeper the rest of the half, taking 16 shots in the first 45 minutes with seven on-frame. In the second half, the Captains added five shots, four on-net.

Midfielder Danny Franklin would add the Captains second goal in the 66th minute, off an assist by Lybert. It was his career-high 11th helper on the season and 28th for his career. He now holds sole possession of fourth all-time in career assists at CNU.

He would cap off his terrific night with a second goal off an assist by rookie Alex Makumbi. Lybert ran his team-high point total to 27 with the five-point night. He had a game-high six shots, five on-goal.

Adrian Acosta played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Hornets, making nine saves and allowing three goals. L.A. St. Hill led the way offensively, taking two shots, both on-frame.

The #4 Captains will play on their home field for the remainder of the regular season, with three games left on the schedule. CNU will host St. Mary's College (Md.) this Saturday at 7:00 pm.
