SAN ANTONIO, Texas. -- In what was billed as a high-octane offensive battle between a pair of top ten programs, it was the #1 Christopher Newport University men's soccer team slipping past the #6 Trinity University Tigers in a defensive struggle, with a 1-0 victory on the road. CNU improved to 10-0 to start the season, matching a program-high win streak, as they dropped #6 Trinity  to 8-2 this season.

Winston Mattheisen (Norfolk, Va.) posted his second gamewinning goal of the weekend, and third of the season, off the ninth assist of the season from Brian Lybert (Honolulu, Hawaii). It was the only goal scored in the contest, between two teams averaging over seven goals per game combined.

CNU goalkeeper Justin Wolfe (Williamsburg, Va.) anchored another terrific outing for the Captains defense. The defense posted their sixth shutout of the season as Wolfe made a season-high five saves. The Captains held Trinity to just a season-low five shots on-goal.

Offensively, the top-ranked Captains came out of halftime with a purpose. After just two shots in the first half, CNU took 11 in the second half, outshooting the Tigers 11-5 in the frame.

Lybert, ranking among the nation's top five in assists per game, earned his ninth of the season when his pass set up Mattheisen's score in the 58th minute. Mattheisen scored his fifth goal of the season, moving him into sixth all-time in career goals (33), while Lybert's assist puts him fifth all-time in helpers (26).

The Tigers were led by Nima Naderi, taking three shots and putting all three on-frame. Cameron Hogsett and Kyle Porter also had one shot on-goal each for #6 Trinity.

The Captains improve to 10-0 to start the season, matching the best win streak in program-history. CNU will stay out on the road for their next game, as they travel to the University of Mary Washington on October 6 for a game at 4 pm.
