Johns Hopkins Stuns Field Hockey 3-2

Captains drop their second game of the season

Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – The Christopher Newport University field hockey team dropped their second game of the season on the road versus Johns Hopkins University, 3-2. The Captains fall to 12-2 on the season while the Blue Jays improve to 9-5.

The Captains scored first off of a penalty stroke taken by Sarah Wister (Yorktown, Va.). Just three minutes later the Blue Jays tied it up off a strike on a penalty corner by Ariana Branchini.

The Captains rebounded with a goal from Caitlin Cahill (Virginia Beach, Va.) who carried the ball into the top of the circle and took a shot to find the back of the cage for her seventh goal of the season.

The Captains had a chance to go up 3-1 when a second penalty stroke was called at 21:44. Wister stepped up again but the stroke was stopped by the keeper keeping the score at 2-1.

Three minutes later Hopkins scored again as Annie Shepard tipped a shot from Hayden Maloney.

The score remained at 2-2 until Hopkins scored another goal from a penalty corner with Branchini getting her second goal of the game.

The Captains were unable to equalize in the last 15 minutes of play leaving it 3-2 as the final score.

CNU led with 15 shots to Hopkins' nine while Hopkins had more corners tallying nine to CNU's seven.

CNU returns to action as they take on Eastern Mennonite on the road next Saturday at 1:00pm.
