DOVER, Del. - The Christopher Newport University football program opened the 2009 season Saturday with a 34-0 loss at Wesley College. The Captains, ranked #20 in the nation, were shutout for just the second time in program history.
CNU trailed 13-0 at the half, and Wesley added three touchdowns in the second half. Junior quarterback Shane McSweeney threw for two touchdowns and senior running back Aaron Jackson rushed for two scores. The game, played in Dover, DE was also the season opener for the Wolverines.

Ray Grenke caught 4 passes for 82 yards. All-American running back
Tunde Ogun was held to 8 yards on 12 carries.
The Captains are off next weekend and play the first of their five home games on Saturday, September 19th. CNU will host Salisbury at POMOCO Stadium during Family Weekend in a 1 p.m. start.
