VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – The Christopher Newport volleyball team split its first to matches at the Virginia Wesleyan Tournament Friday night, falling to Mary Washington, 3-1, but then defeating Rivier, 3-0.
In the first match CNU dropped a 25-18, 20-15, 21-25, 25-27 decision to Mary Washington as Bailey Jensen led the way with ten kills, Caitlyn Jansen and Cory Harris each contributed nine. In addition, Kara Elder and Abby Hogge had 12 digs each. Ryann Lowery added 24 assists and eight aces, while Jessie Heavenrich had 14 assists.
In the second match CNU scored a 25-18, 25-15, 25-12 win over Rivier as Heavenrich and Lowery had 15 and 12 assists respectively. Jensen had nine kills, Jansen eight and Rebecca Dancy chipped in with ten digs.
The Captains meet St. Joseph's (N.Y.) at 10 a.m. Saturday and Gwynedd Mercry at noon at Virginia Wesleyan.
