CNU Wins Thriller Against VA. Wesleyan 2-1 In OT

  

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Christopher Newport Men's Soccer team defeated the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday night.

   The first half between CNU and Virginia Wesleyan was marred with nine yellow cards including two issued to CNU goalie Justin Wolfe. This led to the Captains having to play a man down for the remainder of the game.

   The Captains were able to take a 1-0 lead when John Corser's cross was kicked in by Winston Mattheisen in the 37th minute.

   Virginia Wesleyan was able to tie the game off a Clay Price shot in the 78th minute when he was able to beat Wolfe's replacement Matt Tengs.

   Brian Lybert was able to score the game winner for the Captains with under 40 seconds left in the first overtime as he was fouled just outside the box and converted on the ensuing kick.

   With the win the Captains improve to 8-1 on the season. Virginia Wesleyan falls to 6-3-1.

   Next up for the Captains will be a trip York ,PA where the Captains will take on York College this Saturday at 3 pm.
