Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – The Christopher Newport University Field Hockey teamed improved to 5-2 in their 2009 campaign as they defeated the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins 5-0.
The Captains put a great deal of pressure on the Marlins in the first half by putting up 15 shots yet only one by junior Taylor Harrell found its way into the goal.
With the Captains leading 1-0 Harrell got on the board again in the 37th minute as she scored off a Caitlin Cahill pass. That would only be the first of four second half Captains' goals as Chrissy Kurecki, Katelyn Yandle and Anna Stout all tallied one each.
The loss drops the Marlins to 2-5 on the year.
Next time out the Captains will host Mary Washington Wednesday September 30th at 4:30 pm.
