VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – CNU got a little bit stronger in each set and won its season-opening volleyball match at Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday night, 24-26, 25-23, 25-20, 25-10.
The Captains featured a balanced attack from their young squad with four different players amassing at least ten kills.
Freshman Kara Elder finished with 12 kills and 13 digs, while junior Caitlyn Jansen added 12 kills and 13 digs. In addition, sophomore Chelsea McClure and freshman Cory Harris each added ten kills.
CNU's two setters each had good nights with junior Ryann Lowery contributing 23 assists and sophomore Jessie Heavenrich 17. Freshman Abby Hogge had 25 digs.
The Captains go right back to Virginia Wesleyan this weekend for the Marlins' tournament. Friday they play Mary Washington at 3:00 and Rivier at 5:00 and then Saturday they take on St. Joseph's (N.Y.) at 10:00 a.m. and Gwynedd Mercy at noon.
