LEXINGTON, Va. – The Christopher Newport volleyball team split its final two matches at the Washington & Lee Invitational Saturday, falling to second-ranked Juniata, 25-18, 25-19, 26-24, before defeating Southern Virginia, 25-19, 25-8, 25-16.
In the first match, Abby Hogge led the way with 17 digs. Mary Horner had 13 digs, Kara Elder nine kills and 11 digs and Bailey Jensen nine kills and three blocks. Jessie Heavenrich and Ryann Lowery split the setting duties with 16 and 12 assists respectively.
Against Southern Virginia Hogge had 11 digs and Caitlyn Jansen eight. Kara Elder contributed nine kills and in setting, Lowery and Alyssa Kidd had 12 assists each and Heavenrich had ten.
At the end of the event Kara Elder was selected to the all-tournament team.
CNU is now 6-3 on the year and makes its home debut against Gettysburg Friday in the Freeman Center at 7:00.
