Men's Soccer Wins VCAM/CNU Invitational with 3-0 Win over Kean

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – CNU scored three times in the second half and scored a 3-0 men's soccer win over Kean to capture the VCAM/CNU Classic Saturday night.

The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half, although CNU outshot Kean, 9-2.

Winston Mattheisen converted from Denny Arinello from directly in front of the goal in the 57th minute to give the Captains all the lead they would need.

Cliff Kipper scored from about 20 yards out 12 minutes later and then Brian Lybert drove home a free kick less than two minutes from the end of the game to account for the final score.

Justin Wolfe made two saves as CNU had a 15-4 advantage in shots.

The Captains are now 3-0 after defeating 2-1 Kean and play next in the Virginia Wesleyan Tournament meeting defending national champion Messiah, the team that barely edged a short-handed CNU team in overtime in the Sweet 16 last year, at 5 p.m. Friday.
