CNU Sails Past Washington (Md.) in Field Hockey, 5-2

  NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – CNU's 14th ranked field hockey team used a strong second half to lift itself to a 5-2 win over Washington (Md.) Sunday afternoon at Captains Field.

  The Captains jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes when Kim Tomlin scored with an assist to Kylie Cale and Annie Gehring tallied with the help of Tomlin. Washington's Emily Trees made it 2-1 at halftime.

  But CNU scored three consecutive goals in the second half, by Kelsey Rigby, Caitin Cahill and Alexandria Gauthier to build the lead to 5-1. Cale and Gehring had assists.

  Emma Stout made six saves to help lift CNU to 2-0 for the season. Washington is 1-2.

  The Captains host sixth-ranked Salisbury Wednesday at 4:30.
