Box Score WINCHESTER, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad remained undefeated in USA South play with a 21-5 win at Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets scored the first goal of the game just 21 seconds in, but CNU roared back with seven unanswered to take a 7-1 lead with 19:54 left in the opening half.
Shenandoah scored to cut the lead to five but Captains reeled off another seven straight goals, the Hornets added another just before halftime, with CNU up, 14-3.
In the second half, Christopher Newport out-scored SU, 7-2.
Kaitlin Quigley led the offensive attack with four goals and two assist. Katie Doherty finished with two goals and five helpers. Chrissy Rogers scored three times and had one assist while Maggie Dean and Liz Klemens also scored three goals.
Mea Arnold scored twice and Jacqui Williar and Christine Mike each had one goal and one assist. Kelsey Daddio and Alyssa Burke both scored once in the win.
CNU out-shot Shenandoah, 43-12. Gayle Robinson played the first 41 minutes and made three saves and Kristen Duca closed the game and was not called upon to make a stop.
The Hornets fall to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in USA South play. The Captains are now 6-2 on the year and 3-0 in USA South action.
Christopher Newport returns to action Monday when they host Randolph-Macon at 4 pm.
