NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The Christopher Newport Volleyball team split their first day of the CNU Invitational by defeating Mary Washington 3-1 and dropping a heartbreaker to #2 ranked Juniata 3-2.

   In the first match the Captains defeated Mary Washington 25-16, 20-25, 25-13, 29-27. Kara Elder and Caitlyn Jansen led the Captains with 18 and 16 kills apiece.

   In the second match the Captains went toe to toe with #2 ranked Juniata but came up just a bit short. Again it was Kara Elder leading the Captains in kills as she tallied 14.

   The Captains won the first set 25-23, dropped the second set 28-26, won the third 27-25, and then dropped the last two 25-14 and 16-14. 

   The Captains now stand at 20-4 overall and will square off against Salisbury and Randolph Macon in Day 2 of the CNU Invitational tomorrow.
