FERRUM, Va. - Breaking a 14-14 halftime tie, CNU went on to a 28-14 football win over Ferrum Saturday afternoon.
The Captains sealed the win with a five yard TD run by
Tunde Ogun with 2:57 to play, capping a 44-yard drive which began after
Robert Davis recovered a fumble on a Ferrum punt rerturn. Ogun then carried the ball 11 straight times, ending it with his 37th career touchdowns in his 26 CNU games.
CNU got on top quickly when
Antonio Epps dashed 91 yards on the Captains' second play of the game. It was the longest running play in CNU history.
The Panthers tied it on the next possession when Stephen Harris ran it in from 19 yards out, but CNU went back in front, 14-7, on a 27-yard reverse by
T.J. Foster ,finishing a ten-play, 63-yard march just after the start of the second quarter.
Ferrum knotted the score at halftime when Quintel Banksscored on an eight-yard run.
Ogun scored what proved to be the winning touchdown from five yards out after a 13-play, 79-yard drive in the third quarter.
Ogun finished with 106 yards on 32 tries, while Epps added 127 yards. He was 7-10 for 82 yards passing with Foster catching four for 46 yards.
The Captains are now 5-3 on the year and 4-1 in the USA South. Ferrum is 4-4 and 2-3.
CNU hosts Maryville next Saturday at 1 p.m.
