CARRIE GARDNER has been a key part of the Christopher Newport University Athletic Department for the last 16 years, and serves as Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator. She joined the department in April of 2008, and was previously Assistant to the Athletic Director.
A native of New Haven, Connecticut, Gardner grew up in Franklin, Massachusetts. She graduated from Providence College with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1997. She earned her Master's of Education in Counseling for Athletes in 2001.
While at Providence, Gardner played rugby and worked as a GA overseeing the recreation program as well as assisting with ticketing and marketing efforts.
Gardner served as the Competition Coordinator at the Gravity Games, an action sports festival similar to X Games, on the Providence campus in 2000 and 2001.
In 2001, Gardner accepted a position in the athletic department at UC-Santa Barbara. She coordinated the Sport Club program for two years before taking over as Ticket Manager from 2003-2008.
At CNU, Gardner oversees all ticket operations and works closely with student groups to improve atmosphere at Captains home events. She also oversees the Director of Recreational Services and is heavily involved in the department's promotions and marketing efforts.
In her role as Senior Woman Administrator, Gardner oversees the Student Advisory Council and is an integral part in the development of student-athlete leadership.
