Christopher Newport University

Jonathan Dean has been an integral part of the Captains athletic department staff as well as the football coaching staff since the program’s inception in 2001. Dean serves as Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for all Christopher Newport University athletic programs.
 
Dean is a 1999 graduate of James Madison University, where he was an all-conference defensive lineman. He later earned his master’s degree from A.T. Still University in Arizona.

He served as an assistant coach at Bethel High School in Hampton, his high school alma mater...and was a member of the Norfolk Nighthawks Arena Football League 2 team. Dean begins his 25th season with the Captains football program as the program celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025. 

Dean and his wife Jocelyn reside in Hampton and have two children, Jai and Dalon.
