Kate Gomes

Kate Gomes rejoined the athletic department at Christopher Newport in 2015 and began her current position of Academic Athletic Mentor in 2016. Previously, she was the assistant sailing coach and was a part of the team’s only national bid in 2016.

As Academic Athletic Mentor, Gomes is responsible for coaching the football team in improving academic performance and guiding them with services offered around campus.
 
Gomes is a 2008 graduate of Christopher Newport with a bachelor’s degree in political science and history. Originally from Midlothian, Virginia, Kate began working at CNU after graduating. In 2011, Gomes received her master’s of education from Old Dominion University. Later she became a high school history teacher and sailing coach from 2012-2015 before returning to her alma mater.
 
Kate resides in Hampton with her husband, Vince, and daughter, Charlotte.
