    Assistant Coach
KAITLYN HASTY, a 2022 Christopher Newport graduate, joined the softball coaching staff of Head Coach Keith Parr prior to the start of the 2024 season.

Hasty, a native of Chesapeake, had a remarkable career as a student-athlete with the Captains, and was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/Schutt Sports DIII National Player of the Year after leading the Captains to their first-ever National Championship in 2022. CNU finished the season with a final record of 47-1, and Hasty was one of 11 finalists for the prestigious DIII Honda Athlete of the Year.

The Western Branch High School product became the program's first National Player of the Year and was, and still remains, the only three-time All-American in CNU softball history. Her uniform number 27 was retired following her illustrious playing career with the Captains.

"Kaitlyn was of the most-feared and respected hitters in the country," Parr said. "She has always had an incredible work ethic, and desire to be the absolute best, and I know she will help our student-athletes achieve at a higher level. Her accomplishments, essentially in just over three seasons due to our shortened 2020 season, will be remembered and celebrated for years to come. I'm so happy to have her back with our program."

The former first baseman led the nation in home runs her senior season in 2022 with 19 and set a new program career mark with 53 round-trippers for her career. Hasty batted .414 with 33 runs, 53 hits and 12 doubles, and led the country with 67 RBI's in 2022. She ranked second nationally in slugging percentage (.953), had a .532 on-base percentage and a 1.485 OPS, drawing 28 walks and striking out just 16 times in 128 at-bats.

In addition to assisting with the Captains, Hasty has also been busy working on her Physical Therapy degree through the University of Pittsburgh.
