    Assistant Coach
Former Hampton University head coach and longtime professional lacrosse standout Chazz Woodson joined the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse program as an assistant coach in preparation for the upcoming 2026 campaign.

Prior to his arrival in Newport News, Woodson served as the head coach at Hampton University beginning in July of 2020. During his five-year stretch at the helm of the team, he helped the Pirates transition from an independent program at the Division I level to a member of the vaunted Coastal Athletic Association. Along with coaching the program's first two All-Conference honorees, he also helped the team rank first in the NCAA in saves-per-game in 2022 and 2024 while slotting eighth nationally in takeaways-per-game in 2023.

Along with his history as a collegiate coach, Woodson has also served as an at-large member of the Board of Directors of USA Lacrosse, a coaching director for Nation United Lacrosse, and a consultant and development director for the Thailand National Team.

In addition to his work on the sidelines, Woodson was an award-winning standout during his time on the field. From 2002-05, he competed at Brown University where he garnered a pair of All-Ivy League and All-New England honors. He was twice named the team's Offensive MVP and served as a captain during his senior campaign. For that performance, he was named to the Brown University Lacrosse All-Decade Team.

After graduating from Brown with a degree in Educational Studies in 2005, Woodson spent over a decade competing on the professional circuit with Major League Lacrosse. During his playing days, he was a captain for the Ohio Machine, made a pair of All-Star appearances, and became the first lacrosse player signed to a New Balance contract.

Along with his degree from Brown, Woodson also earned a master's degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University, Irvine. A product of Hampton Roads, he was a three-sport athlete at Norfolk Academy before graduating from the Blue Ridge School in central Virginia.
