Alex Morales

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
One of the most talented field hockey players in Christopher Newport history, Alex Morales has been equally influential on the sidelines while serving as an assistant coach with the Captains.

Entering her third year as a member of the coaching staff in 2025, Morales helped lead CNU to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in her first two seasons, including a run to the Elite Eight in 2024. That squad eventually finished with a 16-3 record while slotting sixth in the final NFHCA National Coaches Poll.

In addition to her work on the staff, Morales spent two seasons playing for the Captains. A two-time All-Conference, All-State, and All-Region selection, she also became the fifth player in program history to be a consensus first-team All-American after accomplishing the feat in 2023. Earning top plaudits from both the NFHCA and Synapse Sports, she was hailed as the Conference and State Defensive Player of the Year while anchoring a unit that ranked third in the NCAA in scoring defense.

Along with her work on the back end, Morales produced 12 assists during her senior campaign, which ranked 11th on the national charts and equaled the second-most by a Captain in school history. Overall, she started all 39 games from 2022-23 while helping lead CNU to a pair of Sweet 16 appearances.

Prior to her time with the Captains, Morales was a three-year player at Division I power Syracuse before graduating in 2021. Serving as both a starter and key reserve with the Orange, she saw action in 28 total games, including 15 bouts against nationally-ranked competition. A native of Yorktown, Virginia, she helped lead Syracuse to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2019 and was a perennial member of the NFHCA National Academic Team and ACC Academic Honor Roll.
