John Napolitano begins his first season as the throws coach at Christopher Neport in 2014-15.
A 2008 graduate of Keene State College, Napolitano has spent the past five years as the head throws coach at his alma mater. During his tenure at KSC, he coached 10 NCAA Championship Qualifiers and helped guide the Owls to six All-American honors. Two of his student-athletes also claimed national championships during his tenure.
“I feel very fortunate to join the Christopher Newport University athletic department,” said Napolitano. “I want to thank the Director of Athletics Todd Brooks and Head Track and Field Coach Tyler Wingard for giving me the opportunity to become a part of the indoor and outdoor track and field programs, and I look forward to working with our current student-athletes to help them reach their goals this season.”
Bringing a wealth of experience to Newport News, Napolitano headed an impressive throwing program at Keene State. During his time at KSC, his athletes won 21 Little East Conference titles, seven Division III New England crowns, and four ECAC Regional championships. They also established 10 school records and garnered 56 All-League honors.
Along with their efforts on the field, Napolitano’s throwers excelled in the classroom as well. He coached 21 Academic All-Conference honorees, two Capital One Academic All-District selections, and an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American recipient.
In addition to his work as the throws coach at Keene State, Napolitano also was the school’s assistant sports information director. He served in the same capacity at Saint Anselm College from 2008-09 as well.
Prior to joining the professional ranks, Napolitano was an All-League thrower at Keene State. He collected All-Conference accolades for his efforts in the hammer, discus, and weight throw. Additionally, he was a six-time All-LEC Academic honoree and graduated with a dual major in Communication Studies and Journalism in 2008.
