Maureen Slattery

Maureen Slattery begins her second season as an assistant coach with the Christopher Newport tennis team in 2018-19.

Prior to joining the Captains, Slattery was a four-year letterwinner and a two-time Co-Captain of the tennis team at the University of Denver. As a freshman, she was named the ITA Mountain Region Rookie of the Year after collecting 19 wins. She would go on to earn All-Conference honors from the Summit League three times and was named the Conference Player of the Year following her senior season.

Slattery was ranked as highly as 116th nationally in singles and amassed a 19-3 doubles record with partner Julia O'Loughlin. The Pioneers tandem advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I Women's Doubles Championships and subsequently were named All-Americans, becoming the first in program history at the University of Denver. The 86.3% winning percentage for the duo set a new program record for a single season.

An economics major at Denver, Slattery returned to her hometown of Newport News, Va. where she played high school tennis at Hampton Roads Academy and was a two-time Virginia High School League state champion.
