Stephanie Athens

Following a decorated career as an All-American midfielder at Messiah, Stephanie Athens is beginning her first year as an assistant coach with the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse program.
 
Celebrated as one of the nation's top players during her time at Messiah, Athens secured All-American honors during each of the past two seasons from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. Along with her national accolades, she was a three-time All-Conference and All-Region selection for her work with the Falcons.
 
During her three years at Messiah, Athens compiled 108 goals and 57 assists, including a career-best 66-point showcase as a senior in 2017. Equally adept in all facets of the game, Athens also contributed 138 draw controls over the past three seasons while adding 88 ground balls and 54 caused turnovers.
 
In addition to her individual efforts, she helped guide Messiah to three consecutive MAC Commonwealth Championships. The program advanced to the NCAA Tournament during each of her three campaigns, including a run to the Sweet 16 in 2017. Overall, she led the Falcons to a 44-14 record during her tenure, including a spotless 24-0 mark in league action.
 
Prior to her time at Messiah, Athens spent her freshman year at Pfeiffer. During the 2014 season, she picked up All-Conference accolades while leading the Falcons to an appearance in the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals. A starter in all 18 games that season, she ranked fourth on the team with 27 goals and 39 points.
 
Following her collegiate career, Athens has been competing professionally with the Baltimore Ride of the United Women's Lacrosse League.
                                              
Along with her efforts on the field, Athens has served as a lacrosse coach with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. During that time, she has worked with the National Middle School Team for the Vail Tournament and the National High School team for the Lake Placid Tournament. Additionally, she has served as a coach and counselor at collegiate lacrosse camps hosted by UConn, Navy, and Messiah.
 
A native of Huntingtown, Maryland, Athens graduated from Messiah in May with a Bachelor of Arts in communication.
