Christopher Newport University Director of Athletics C.J. Woollum and Volleyball Coach Lindsay Birch today announced the hiring of Randi Raff as assistant volleyball coach.
“Randi is an excellent addition to our CNU Volleyball family,” Birch said. “She will be an invaluable part of our staff as the primary recruiter, as well as providing instruction to our players in practice and during games.”
Raff comes to CNU from Southeast Missouri State University, where she has been an assistant coach for the last two years.
“I am very excited to begin working with Randi as we strive toward big goals for the 2010 season,” Birch continued. “As with all of our coaches, I know she will make a great impact on our players succeeding on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.”
Raff graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in 2005 with a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science. She received her Master’s in Health and Kinesiology from Purdue University in 2007.
Raff played collegiately at Southern Indiana where she lettered three seasons as an outside hitter for the Screaming Eagles. She played in 40 matches over her career and averaged 1.6 kills and 1.4 digs per game over that span. During her time at USI she helped the team record 93 wins including two NCAA Division II Tournament berths
“I am elated to be joining CNU’s athletic program,” Raff said. “Christopher Newport is a quality institution from top to bottom, and I’m so excited to be a part of it. I’m really thrilled to be working with Lindsay, who’s built an amazingly successful program.”
Raff, a native of Rensselaer, Indiana, will begin her duties at CNU on Monday, June 14.
The CNU volleyball squad, coming off a 36-7 season and a trip to the NCAA’s Elite 8 in 2009, will begin the 2010 season on September 1st at the Freeman Center against Virginia Wesleyan.
