Gregg Brooks enters his fourth season as an assistant with Christopher Newport in 2019-20. He has served as a coach with the Boo Williams Summer League program, developing 5th-8th grade players for high school basketball. From 2010-13, Brooks coached with the Menchville High School boy's program, primarily working with the guards on skill development. Other duties included assisting with planning and running practices, as well as game preparation.Â
He was then hired as the head JV girl's coach and Varsity girl's lead assistant at Menchville in 2014. Brooks spent two seasons as head coach and helped the varsity to a pair of conference tournament appearances. During his tenure, two players earned All-Conference honors, including two-time Conference Player of the Year Adria Strothers.
A graduate of Ferguson High School, where he was a two-time All-District wide receiver for the Mariners, Brooks attended Ferrum College and played football for two years. He spent several years coaching youth sports, conducting camps, and he was instrumental in the development of cousin Aaron Brooks' skills as a youth, who went on to quarterback at the University of Virginia and in the NFL.Â
Gregg and his wife Felicia have two children, Nekaybaw and Isaiah Brooks.Â
