Leah Richardson joined the Christopher Newport track & field coaching staff following a dominant career as a sprinter with the Captains.

An electric athlete, Richardson was an All-Conference performer and two-time national qualifier at CNU. In 2014, she became the first female in Capital Athletic Conference history to sweep the indoor and outdoor 400-meter crowns. Along the way, she established a new league record in the indoor discipline with a time of 59.51 before adding a championship meet standard in the outdoor event with a 57.40 clocking.

For her efforts, Richardson also placed her name among the program's all-time elites, finishing her career ranked 10th in CNU history in the outdoor 400.

In addition to her individual efforts, Richardson also helped the 4x400-relay qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2014 and 2015. The foursome eventually placed 10th at the title meet in 2014 before finishing 14th the following year.
