Mary Kennedy, one of Christopher Newport's most accomplished softball standouts, has been an assistant coach on the staff of Head Coach Keith Parr since the 2020 season.
Kennedy, who was an All-Conference, All-State, and All-Region honoree, was also selected the 2008 USA South Tournament MVP. She played with the Captains from 2007-2010, and was an outstanding hitter as well as defensive shortstop. She was a key member of the 2010 Captains squad that advanced to the NCAA National Finals for the first time in program history, and her squads made the NCAA tournament all four years.
The native of Richmond graduated from Midlothian High School, and concluded her career at CNU as the program's all-time leader in hits, runs scored, stolen bases, games started, at bats, assists, and sacrifice hits. She still holds the runs scored, stolen bases, assists and sacrifice hits marks in the Captains record book.
Kennedy was a business marketing major at Christopher Newport and graduated in 2010. In addition to being on the staff of the Captains, Kennedy is an HVAC Commercial Quotations Analyst at Ferguson Enterprises.
