2014-15 - Junior (Track & Field) - Came in 16th in the shot put during the CAC Outdoor Championships with an 11.47-meter throw … Posted his finest effort in the event at the Aggie Invitational after launching an 11.80-meter heave … Also competed at the Tribe Invitational and New Captains Classic.

2013 - Junior - Had a breakout campaign for the Captains, earning first-team All-Conference and All-State accolades to go along with second-team All-Region nods ... Appeared in all 10 games and earned nine starts for the Captains ... Ranked second on the team and eighth in the conference with 3.5 sacks ... Eventually finished the season with 39 tackles, including 8.5 for a loss ... Kicked the season off in impressive fashion, posting seven tackles, including a sack, against Salisbury on September 7 ... Also chipped in with sacks against LaGrange on November 2 and Averett on November 9 after assisting on one against N.C. Wesleyan on October 12 ... Had seven tackles, including a season-high 3.5 for a loss against Averett ... Came through with six tackles against both Methodist on October 5 and LaGrange. 

2012 - Sophomore – Started all 11 games…Received honorable mention All-Conference honors for his performance on the defensive line…Recorded 35 tackles, including 6.5 for a loss…Had five sacks on the year, including one in each of his final four contests… Also posted a sack in the team’s victory at Shenandoah…Forced a fumble and broke up a pair of passes against Greensboro…Posted a season-high nine tackles at Maryville before adding five against LaGrange and Methodist.

2011 - Freshman - Played in six games during his first year...Accounted for eight solo tackles and two assisted tackles...Recorded three tackles and one assisted tackle at Methodist...

At James River – Played three years of football for coach Defrancesco…A second team All-District defensive tackle his junior and senior years…Also played two years of basketball.

Personal – Shaun Anthony Copening is the son of Tony Copening and Shawn Norton…Has two brothers, Cameron and Ayron…If he could play any instrument it would be the drums…Majoring in Sociology/Criminology.
