Shomari Wright returns to his alma mater for the 2022 football season, joining the Captains coaching staff to work with cornerbacks. He begins his second season on the Christopher Newport coaching staff.
Wright, a Newport News native, graduated from Heritage High School and became an outstanding defensive back with the Captains from 2013 to 2016. During his career, in 2015, he helped the Captains’ advance to the second round of the NCAA playoffs, marking the furthest playoff run in CNU football history.Following his senior year, he was named honorable mention All-Conference in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
Wright began his coaching career as the Defensive Coordinator for the Grafton High School football program from 2017-2020.
